With the recent physical re-release of the Final Fantasy I-VI Collection, it's a good time to take a look at the differences between the original first print and the new Anniversary Edition. Many people on social media weren’t aware that they aren’t exactly the same.
The differences are small, but noticeable. The re-release comes with the subtitle "Anniversary Edition" on the front cover, and the spine also mentions the edition. The back of the cover remains almost identical, except for a slight adjustment in the disclaimer text. Additionally, the Anniversary Edition includes a sheet of stickers, which you can even hear inside the case if you shake it.
It's great that more people now have the chance to own a physical copy of the Pixel Remaster versions, especially for the PS4. Previously, the PS4 version was extremely rare and often scalped for high prices on eBay. However, despite these differences, the value of the first print version remains high for collectors, so its rarity hasn't been diminished by the re-release.
For those who don't care about owning the first print and just want a physical copy to play, this re-release is a welcome option.
For those who are curious, in the first shot I’ve also included the Japanese PS4 version from the Square Enix Store in Japan, as well as the Asia Switch version that many probably ordered from Play-Asia.
What do you think of the differences between the original and Anniversary Edition of the Final Fantasy I-VI Collection?
