This post was supposed to be about my firsthand experience with the FFVII Rebirth Demo, but get ready for another Xe's rant!
A few weeks ago, Square Enix members in Germany had the opportunity to secure tickets for an exclusive event where, for the first time in Germany, you could play the FFVII Rebirth demo. I booked two tickets and yesterday drove with my family 600km to Berlin to attend the event today.
What became apparent shortly after booking the tickets was that the public also had a chance to play the game between 10 am and 6 pm on the same day before the members' event began. I heard that during those times, the queues were over 2 hours long. "Luckily, I won't have to wait that long later when the access is limited," I thought.
We arrived on time at 7 pm at the venue and saw 9 PS5 stations where the demo was playable. However, since they were occupied most of the time, I decided to try my luck later. At 8 pm, all the TVs were turned off, and a quiz began. Due to some shenanigans, it took longer than originally planned. After the quiz concluded and people received their prizes, it was announced that they would continue with the screening of Advent Children.
I asked when the consoles would be turned on again and received the answer from both Square Enix employees that "That was it!" In disbelief, I asked, "How could that be it?" They replied, "Yeah, you had the chance to play until now. Also, during the whole day." This wasn't communicated, and I expected to play during the entire community event. So, as a Square Enix member who arrived at the announced time, you had the chance to play the game for one hour on 9 gaming stations, with over 100 people attending. Do the math yourself.
As a cherry on top, the movie shown wasn't even Advent Children Complete but the shorter version because "we don't have enough time anymore." We left the event shortly after the start of the movie. My anger is immeasurable considering the costs and time we wasted on this.
Some people who attended the event will disagree with me, but this event was a big disappointment personally. The best thing about this trip was meeting and spending the day with @finalfanjessi again.
