Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Demo: "Fall of a Hero in Nibelheim"

The demo of FFVII Rebirth is a promising glimpse into what could be (and probably will be) a remarkable gaming experience. The storytelling is exceptional, with the flashback narrative and character interactions providing both humor and depth. The impact of player actions on character bonds and plot progression adds an intriguing element to the experience.

The reimagined flashback is faithful to the original and resembles what I imagined when playing the original. It definitely fleshes out Sephiroth as a character and perfectly portrays his downfall for an emotional impact. The even more polished, action-packed fighting mechanics are, in my opinion, the best in the Final Fantasy series. The rhythm-based piano mini-game is a great addition and will cost us all a lot of time. I am not 100% satisfied with the stick controls, and it could benefit from a more accurate input method.

The graphics, while impressive in parts, didn't always meet expectations. Especially some lighting issues resulted in less-than-ideal character appearances. These are likely problems in an early demo build and should be resolved in the final release.

The vacuum mini-game felt reallyyyy unnecessary and disrupted the pacing. Slow walking was overused and especially the limping and crawling scenes, which were just overly long. The Sephiroth vs. Villagers scene made me shake my head when not a single shot was fired lol.

Despite these small issues, the demo was really enjoyable and made me crave for more. It's clear that the final release will be an amazing experience that fans eagerly await. The demo wasn't perfect, but it's a solid foundation for what could be another standout entry in the Final Fantasy series.

What were your highlights of the demo? Were you disappointed by anything? Share your thoughts below!
