Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age

Some of you were also interested in my opinion, so here is my "short" review of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age!

This review is referring only to the PS4 remaster version of the game, as i didn't play the PS2 original.

I also only played the game to finish the story and not to 100% it.

This is just my personal opinion and i'm looking forward to hearing what you think of this game!

Story: The story is pretty linear and is missing any twists or thrill. It's also missing any depth we are used from the previous main entries. The mentioning of "Nethicide" is getting annoying pretty quickly. Vaan and Penelo could be NPCs that are just tagging along. My favorite characters are Fran and Balthier, who could be the real main characters of the game.

Gameplay:

The mechanics need to get used to. The switch from a pure turn based system to this MMORPG style, takes a lil bit time to get familiar with. TUnlocking of the slots on the license boards and the gambit system, it's offering a fresh wind in the series and makes especially tedious grinding way more bearable. The difficulty spikes at some points are making the grind necessary.

Graphics:

The graphics are okay-ish. I will rate it knowing it's a remaster version and the game of course can't keep up with FFXV or even FFXIII. The character design, because of the edgy faces, felt strange at first. I will still call this game the 50 shade of sepia because of the color palette used^^

Music:

For the first time in the main series, the music wasn't composed by Nobuo Uematsu but by Hitoshi Sakimoto. The music is always one of the highlights of the game and really fits the settings. It also delivers a perfect atmosphere for every situation.

Verdict: For me, FFXII will stay a mediocre game with a more or less disappointing story. I still enjoyed playing it, but the story didn't give me the feeling to ever replay it again. Especially after NG+ doesn't carry over your items and license boards but just let you start with level 90 character…
