Kazuyuki Shindo Reflects on 27-Year Career as He Announces Departure from Square Enix

Kazuyuki Shindo, a Square Enix veteran, has officially announced his departure from the company after 27 years. Shindo’s career spans numerous notable games across the Final Fantasy, SaGa, and Mana series. His journey began as a Monster Action Data Assistant on Legend of Mana and as a map designer for SaGa Frontier 2.

Over the years, Shindo’s influence grew within the company. He worked as an event planner for Final Fantasy XIII and also served as the lead event planner for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. More recently, he contributed as an assistant director to SaGa: Emerald Beyond.

In a heartfelt post on his personal X account, Shindo reflected on his extensive career and expressed gratitude toward Square Enix.

"On February 28, 2025, I left Square Enix, where I had the pleasure of working for 27 years, ever since the Square days. The Saga, Final Fantasy and Mana series are important to me. I would like to ask those who enjoyed these series and the games that I was involved in to continue to support both. My future plans are a blank slate. To be continued."

Shindo’s message continued with appreciation for his mentors and colleagues at the company:

"I am deeply grateful for the 27 years I spent with the company. Mr. Kawazu and many other senior colleagues are my mentors in both games and life. I am hoping to continue working in the world of games and entertainment, and I look forward to any good opportunities that may arise."
