PS4 - Kotodama: The 7 Mysteries of Fujisawa

Updated: May 30, 2023

Some of you posted hybrid games like Yurukill, so I decided to post a hybrid also! Kotodama: The 7 Mysteries of Fujisawa is a visual novel mixed with a puzzle game.

The story is revolving around a transfer student that was convinced to join the occult research club and is trying to solve the mysterious rumors in the academy. The main character made a pact with a (cat looking) demon, giving him the power to see the truth behind the lies. This power is represented in the form of a pretty well known "Match three" puzzles. When executing some puzzles combos the characters are losing clothes and are making the typical ecchi moans😏

I started the game with moderate expectations, but even those couldn't be fulfilled. The story starts promising, but after the first playthrough everything feels rushed, badly explained and all dialogs are flat and are missing any depth.

The story about the demon is really mehhh. This was really a let-down.

So much wasted potential because it feels like they really tried to fit everything from the complete genre, but fail to do anything well.

The puzzles while fun in the beginning, are being really annoying when you try to get a different ending and you have to replay them all over again... multiple times.. For the last playtrough I let my wife play the puzzles, cuz they weren't challenging, just time-consuming and annoying.

Can I recommend this game? Phuuu that's not easy to answer. Maybe if you want a change of pace from the more conventional visual novels and also want to play one with some puzzle gameplay. It's not the best game, but it's available for cheap so I don't regret buying it. If you should get it, don't expect a masterpiece and keep your expectations low 😅

I promise the next game I will write about will be a better one 😉
