Cloud and Sephie teamed up to present today's post!
Last week, Final Fantasy VII Advent Children celebrated its 18th anniversary, and I thought it was a good time to showcase it in its best format: UMD! 😅
For those unfamiliar with UMD, it stands for Universal Media Disc and was the disc format used with the Sony PSP. Besides games, Sony also released some movies using this format, one of them being Advent Children. This is the definitive edition to watch the movie!.... Okay... maybe not 😂
With a resolution of 720x480, the quality is not really up to today's standards. However, back then, it was comparable to DVDs and allowed for on-the-go viewing, which was quite an achievement. Yes, the PSP also had memory cards where you could store the movie, but we all know Sony got greedy and made those way too expensive to use for movies instead of games.
I am still nostalgic about the UMD releases and have the European and Japanese releases of the movie in my collection. The Japanese release shown today is pretty easy and affordable to get, and is a great collectible for all fans of FFVII and the AC movie. The Japanese UMD version includes a set of battle music tracks from the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Original Soundtrack as a bonus.
Are you familiar with UMD releases of movies? Did you have any?
