Today's post is about the first PS Vita game I ever bought! Years ago, I bought my Vita especially for a 14-hour flight and thought a tactical RPG would be perfect to keep me busy. Good choice?
Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention is available on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. The Vita edition is an enhanced version of the PS3 release, Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice, including all the DLCs and additional content.
The game is set in the Evil Academy, a Netherworld school where misbehavior is rewarded. It follows Mao, the Overlord's son, who wants to overthrow his father and become a hero. Along the way, his childhood rival Raspberyl and human hero fanboy Almaz get involved, leading to comedic and dramatic encounters. The story explores rivalry, ambition, and identity, with unexpected twists and character revelations.
Disgaea 3 features strategic battles on isometric maps, where players control a group of characters with various abilities. Unique mechanics include geo blocks that affect battlefield statistics, stackable characters for "tower attacks," and the magichange system that lets monsters transform into weapons. Players can customize characters with proficiency-based weapons and "evilities," special skills that enhance battle performance. The game also offers extensive post-game content, including bonus maps, new characters, and challenging epilogue chapters.
Overall, Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention provides a rich, complex gameplay experience with a blend of strategy, humor, and deep customization. Whether you're a series veteran or new to Disgaea, this Vita title is a must-play for tactical RPG enthusiasts.
