Time for another, by now more or less regular, post to show some love for Final Fantasy VIII! It’s always fun to revisit this game, and I know opinions about it can be divided. Some fans adore it, while others... not so much. 😂 Today, I decided to share a few shots of the black label PAL version of the game.
I first played Final Fantasy VIII over 20 years ago, back when video rental stores were still a thing. True story: I rented it, made a copy on my PC, and returned it just a few hours later. Let’s just say my plan might have looked a little... suspicious. 😂
This game has always been a bit of a lightning rod. It’s loved by many but also criticized for features like the junction system and enemies leveling with the player. Personally, I love the story, the characters, and even the much-debated magic drawing system. 🤷♀️
Back in school, I used to study the guidebook daily to figure out the best magic to draw and which GFs to equip for the most powerful combinations. The effort felt worth it for those epic battles and memorable moments.
One scene that stands out for me is when Odin unexpectedly appears during the battle against Seifer. Watching him unleash Zantetsuken at the start of the fight was unforgettable—a moment that still gives me chills.
How about you? What are your thoughts on Final Fantasy VIII? What do you love or dislike about it? And who’s your favorite character? Let me know!
