Today's post is about a classic game whose series originates from the Final Fantasy franchise. I'm referring to 'Saiken Dentsetsu', more commonly known in the West as the 'Mana series'. For this post, I have for you the fourth installment in the series that was released for the PlayStation 1.
In Legend of Mana, much like its predecessors in the Mana series, the game employs an angled top-down perspective. This allows players to guide their characters through the terrain while engaging in battles against hostile creatures. The player takes control of the main character, who remains unnamed, and can be accompanied by up to two companions. Combat occurs in real-time, directly within the location where the enemy is encountered, rather than transitioning to a separate battle screen.
Legend of Mana is set in the world of Fa'Diel, where the Mana Tree, the source of life, was nearly destroyed nine centuries ago. After a war over scarce mana, the burnt Mana Tree began to regrow. The player, a silent protagonist, aims to restore the world.
The game features non-linear gameplay, allowing players to choose their own adventures and encounter various characters and creatures. It's known for its beautiful hand-drawn graphics, engaging combat, and a rich narrative with multiple storylines.
If you are interested in this classic, a remastered version was released by Square Enix two years ago and is available for Switch, PS4 and PC.
While the Switch and PS4 versions are only available in digital format outside of Japan (or as code-in-a-box🤮), you can purchase a physical ASIA version from Play-Asia (links below).
