After FFXI last week, I thought I will post my first serious experience with FFXIV.
Even though I originally started playing legacy FFXIV on PC, I didn't continue as it was really buggy and simply wasn't a pleasant experience for me. I was really surprised when SE announced to revamp the complete game and rerelease it in the form of A Realm Reborn.
I played the beta for ps3 and instantly liked it. I didn't really much cared about the story, but the mechanics and my Monk class were really fun and satisfying. A reason enough for me to start playing on the day of final release.
And there went my life and all my free time for more than a year where I spent countless hours, every day, playing, grinding and later on raiding with my FC.
Unfortunately, later on I found it personally too tedious, grindy and boring, what made me quit the game for a longer time. I am sure many long time players will see it differently, but I really hated to do FATEs for a chance of tokens to be finally able to upgrade my weapon. RNG sucked and while I did the same FATEs as my FC and many got one token after other, I was stuck with one for a really long time. It's my personal opinion, but if something is not fun anymore and feels like tedious work, it's a reason for me to quit 🤷
After a long break I continued playing, but I will not bother to aim for endgame or anything else and just do my dungeons casually when I feel like it. Continue the story here and there, but that's about it. Oh and playing cards since this is one of my favorite updates 😂
If you play FFXIV, when did you started?
