For the first gaming post of this year, I choose a game that I finished before the end of the last year: 428: Shibuya Scramble! It will be not easy to describe, because the game is a lil bit different. I will give my best to not lose you in a wall of text! 😅
Shibuya Scramble is a visual novel originally released only in Japan for the Wii and later ported for PS3, PSP and iOS. 2018 the game was finally translated and released worldwide for the PS4 and PC. The game is one of only 27 games that ever received a perfect score of 40/40 by the well-known Japanese magazine Famitsu.
The game is a crime story in which you try to reveal the identity of a terrorist and prevent a bio terror attack on Tokyo. What makes this game special? Through the story, you control multiple characters and play them at the same time! The game is split up into 1 hour blocks, in which you need to switch between the characters, until you reach a conclusion of the hour for all of them. The decision you make with one character have an impact on other characters within the same time block. Your decision will lead to a bad ending many many many times! Change your choices and try again! Think out of the box!
The visuals are definitely making the game standout because all scenes are involving real actors! The scenes are nicely presented and are delivering action, mystery and even comedy. In the process of the game making, a whooping amount of 120 thousand pictures were taken! While the game is not a AAA title, you can clearly see the love for details and dedication of the developers!
Is this game a 40/40? Probably not for the mainstream, but if you are a fan of visual novels or mystery adventures with a great story telling, this game definitely a must play!
