PS4 - Alan Wake Remastered

Who would have thought that I would even finish a third game this month?! 🤯 And because I recently like to mix up genres as much as possible, this time I have a Mystery action-adventure for you that many should be familiar with.

In Alan Wake, you become the titular character, a best-selling crime thriller novelist, unraveling the mystery behind his wife's disappearance in the fictional town of Bright Falls, Washington. The game's unique structure, resembling a thrilling TV series with unexpected plot twists, sets it apart.

Players confront shadowy creatures known as the "Taken," armed with flashlights and conventional weapons. The strategic use of light, be it from flashlights or the environment, becomes crucial in defeating these otherworldly foes.

However, the game is a mixed bag. The intriguing start, with a narrative resembling a Stephen King novel, captured my interest. Yet, the downside is substantial. I found the characters, especially Alan, unlikable, with questionable decision-making that left me shaking my head. The expectation of a more horror-oriented experience was dampened by unnecessary driving sequences and waves of enemies. The frustrating enemy design, featuring birds and darkness, coupled with continuous spawning, added to the disappointments. Not to forget, the PS5's frame drops and stuttering video sequences were unacceptable for a remastered version.

Overall, Alan Wake is a mediocre experience, another game to check off my list without much enjoyment. Despite the game's praised sequel, I refuse to pay for a digital-only game, no matter how good it's supposed to be. If you want my money, give me a disc version. 🤷

If you've played Alan Wake, what are your thoughts on the first game?
