A game I was really looking forward to finally playing, as it's different from the usual JRPGs and arena fighters that the Digimon franchise typically produces. Digimon Survive is a visual novel with tactical role-playing elements, developed by Hyde and published by Bandai Namco. It's available on Switch, PS4, Windows, and Xbox One. During a historical studies camp, a group of students stumbles upon a Digimon-infested world while investigating a local temple. This sets the stage for an intriguing journey filled with legends, mystery, and unexpected discoveries. The game offers a dynamic blend of visual novel storytelling and tactical role-playing. Player choices ifluence the story's direction and Digimon evolution, leading to multiple possible endings. It features various gameplay types like Drama Parts, Search Action, Free Action, and Free Battle, adding depth to the experience. The game faced a big controversy because it seems like some people have the attention span of a loaf of bread. Bandai Namco clearly communicated that this game is a visual novel with turn-based fights. People still went online to complain that it contains too much text and "if I wanted to read, I would buy a book". As if they even know what a book looks like 🙄. Unfortunately for me, the game had different issues. I didn't really enjoy the fights and wished the game would be a pure visual novel. The fights were rather boring and disrupted the flow of the story. I just wanted to know what happened next... Another complaint is the storytelling itself. The game's theme is definitely more mature, leaning towards horror, but the way the characters talk and how things are repeated, as if I would forget what happened 10 seconds ago, really annoyed me. I also didn't feel any connection with any of the characters. When certain things happened, I felt no sympathy towards them... In the end, I unfortunately didn't really enjoy it and was glad when I was finally done with it, what felt like forever. Sorry... 🤷
