Here’s a throwback from the depths of Xe’s Archives! This post actually revisits one of my first-ever Instagram entries—it was probably my second or third post, right after introducing you to chibi Lightning. Today, I’ve updated it a bit for a fresh look.
Let’s talk about the remastered version of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, originally a GameCube title. The game was released digitally across multiple platforms, but as a collector, I had to get my hands on the physical version. Unfortunately, this was only available in Japan (and is also only playable in Japanese), making it a rare item that I can see becoming even more difficult to find in the future.
The remaster itself is a bit of a mixed bag. While the art and music still shine and hold the charm of the original, the gameplay feels outdated, and some of the mechanics can be frustrating. One of the biggest letdowns for me was the co-op mode. My wife and I had hoped to relive the multiplayer fun, but the redesigned online multiplayer turned out to be disappointing, lacking the simplicity and enjoyment of the original version.
Single-player also leaves something to be desired, feeling a little uninspired overall. Despite these flaws, the game still offers a nostalgic look back at Final Fantasy history. It might appeal to long-time fans, but newer players may struggle to appreciate its dated design.
Have you played the remastered Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles? What are your thoughts?
