I can't remember if I ever made a specific post about the Pixel Remaster release, aside from the rant I had about its initial launch on PC and mobile. I think I shared all the releases I bought, but I didn't make a separate post to discuss the Collector's Edition.
The physical release has been widely considered one of Square Enix's most problematic in recent years. The limited quantity, surprise drop on the SE store, and quick sell-out left many fans frustrated. The high prices in the resale market, especially for the PS4 version, only added to the disappointment.
As a sealed collector, I often get asked why I have two CE boxes. The answer isn't a love for duplicates (I don't have any double items in my collection, and I end up giving away any duplicates I have), but rather the subtle differences inside. The Japanese version, noticeable with an X-ray view, a scale, or, if you're not weird like me, simply opening it, includes a Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Memorial Ultimania – a region-exclusive book series that rarely goes beyond Japan.
Besides the Ultimania, the CE features a special sleeve housing the game, a 2-disc picture vinyl set, Pixel artbook, and Pixel figurines – all neatly packed into the big box featured in my post.
Now, why talk about the Pixel Remaster today? The games are currently on sale, with a tempting 20% off on the bundle featuring all six games for Playstation, Switch, and PC. Individual games also have discounts, though not as steep as the bundled offer. Square Enix even released a new trailer for the occasion, available in my profile's reel.
Let it all out, and let me hear your opinion about this highly controversial release!
