With new information about FFVII Rebirth, we are making big steps towards announcement of the release date and preorders of the physical copies of the game. That's why I wanted to discuss the various releases of the first part of the trilogy and showcase the Deluxe Edition as a demonstration.
FFVII Remake was released in three different editions: Standard, Deluxe, and 1st Class Edition.
I believe there's no need to explain what the standard edition includes, so let's take a at the contents of the Deluxe edition!
The Deluxe Edition includes:
Final Fantasy VII Remake game
Artbook
Mini-Soundtrack
Steelbook
Cactuar Summon Materia DLC
Additionally, SE also announced a so-called 1st Class Edition which, in addition to the contents of the Deluxe Edition, includes a Play Arts Kai figure of Cloud and the Hardy Daytona...
I remember preordering this edition while sitting in the metro without even reading its contents, just so I wouldn't miss out on it. When I placed the order, I felt relieved and happy that I no longer needed to worry about it. When the release date arrived and the package was delivered to my doorstep, I was overjoyed to add it to my collection. However, upon unpacking, I realized that the 1st Class Edition merely had a separate copy of the Deluxe Edition. This was what Square Enix called a "soft bundle."
As a collector, I despised it then, and I still do! They couldn't even put the game together with the figure in one box. So I ended up with two Deluxe Editions... I returned one because SE can keep it. How difficult is it to combine the figure with the game?!?! Through this post, I simply want to convey one thing: please don't create cheap "soft bundles" just to include an overpriced figure that I wouldn't buy separately. Give me a statue, vinyls, artbooks, and more in one box, just like you did for the Japan-exclusive collector's editions of Crisis Core Reunion and Stranger of Paradise.
Based on the release of FFXVI, I believe we can expect three different releases again: Standard, Deluxe, and Collector's editions. However, considering the Pixel Remastered and FFXVI only offering "collector's boxes," I'm not confident this won't be the case for FFVII Rebirth. I hope I'm mistaken, but we shouldn't expect any Japan-exclusive releases for a big title like FFVII Rebirth.
What is your opinion on the different editions of FFVII Remake, and what would you like to see with the release of FFVII Rebirth?
