After finishing Nier Automata, I was searching for a shorter game that I could still squeeze in the days left before going on holidays. Even though I had this game digitally for few years, I only took a peek but never seriously played it. Because I knew it is not that long and I also recently added a physical version to my collection, I decided to finally go for it.
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is a video game developed by Ninja Theory and is considered an AA title (Ninja Theory called it a AAA game with an indie game budget 😅). It follows the journey of a Pict warrior named Senua who suffers from a severe form of psychosis. Senua travels to the Norse underworld to rescue the soul of her lover Dillion. The game is known for its stunning graphics, intense combat, and accurate portrayal of mental illness. So if you are sensitive to this kind of matters, process with caution!
I have to say that this game was fantastic! I don't know why it took me so long to finally finish it. The storytelling was top-notch and kept me interested from the beginning till the end. The suspenseful atmosphere kept me on the edge of my sit for the entirety of the story. I even had to take breaks, because the game is getting so tense!
If you haven't played it yet, I highly recommend it. But be warned, it's not an easy journey!
The game is really cheap to get in almost every sale and even a sequel, Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, was announced at The Game Awards 2019.
