Okay.. Few days ago, after multiple tries, I finally finished Nier: Automata. With finished, I mean I got the main A-E endings and also some optional ones along the way. As always, i wanted to use this post to share my honest opinion. WARNING: Unpopular opinion incoming!
It took me four attempts spread across 2 years to finally finish the game. Every time after around 2 hours I made a break and instead of continuing the next day I started playing something else. Few weeks ago I decided to stick with it, no matter what, until I finish it. I can tell you I was really close to drop it again... But because sooo many people told me the game is getting better, "you need to finish at least the first ending and it will get good" or "you need to get the E ending to fully experience it" and even made post about the game in the last days, i decided to stick with it till the end.
Unfortunately, after over 30 hours and all main endings I still feel emptiness.
The gameplay was at first really refreshing and the changes between 2D, 3D and the shmup parts were also really fun. Also, the addition of the hacking mini-game was fun. At first.. After a while the game is sooo repetitive, the story telling slow and the world just monotonous.
Maybe this is just not a game for me, but after so many people were using the nowadays overused word "masterpiece", i had certain expectations the game couldn't fulfill. After being disappointed, I searched for other people's opinions and found many having the same issues I did. Some love it, some hate it, I just feel nothing 🤷
