This was a game that was in my PS4 backlog the longest! I bought it instantly after receiving my PS4, played it for a while and after being frustrated with one mission I never came back. Instead, I decided to get the platinum trophy in Dead or Alive 5😂
Now was time for a second chance!
Sleeping Dogs is a spiritual successor of the canceled True Crime series that had two entries during the PS2 era. It is a martial arts action adventure that obviously will be compared to GTA cuz of the open world and the crime inspired story. I am not a big fan of GTA but Sleeping dogs is really martial arts centered and also features parkour elements. With this mix.. Count me in!
The story revolves around an undercover cop that it's infiltrating a Triad organization in Hong Kong and of course has some personal reasons for a revenge. The story is stereotypical and well known from many action movies. I still enjoyed it as it didn't drag like many other games nowadays. The characters are likeable, the voice acting is well executed and perfectly fits the game. The fighting mechanics are really fun and especially the environmental kills are really brutal! My biggest issue, like in many games of this type, are the driving physics. It all feels sloppy and unrealistic making me mad while traveling from A to B.
This is the definitive edition for PS4 that is a remaster of the ps3 version and contains beside the graphics and framerate improvements, also all DLCs.
If you like open-world GTA-like games and always wanted some martial arts spice added to it, definitely give it a go!
