"Flame of Fury! Burning strike!!"
Just in time for today's post, I finished my May game and wanted to share my experience with you.
This entry in the Tales of series was causing a big hype when it was released last year and after playing the demo myself it was sure that I need to play it also.
This is the first Tales of game I managed to finish and was glad it is also not one of the longest ones. It took me around 55 "dad gaming hours" 😅 (sometimes you need to pause the game for a longer time because chaos is happening around you)
The characters are really likable and Rinwell end up being my favorite. But still the MVP is definitely Hootle! 😅 The story starts strong and kept me interested for a while. Unfortunately I didn't like the story telling in the last parts of the game. It was more of a visual novel where they forgot it's an action jrpg and squeezed in some boring and unnecessary dungeons. The last dungeon was terribly disappointing to me and i was glad when it was finally over...
It took me a while to get used to the fighting system but started to like it through the majority of the game. Unfortunately also this felt tedious after 30 hours of playing. No matter the level, the characters are feeling pretty weak and all the flashy attacks are not having as much impact as they indicate.
In my opinion it's a good JRPG but nothing groundbreaking considering the hype it was generating. Was it fun? Yes. Would I replay it or go for platinum trophy? No. The graphics and characters are the highlight but the story went downhill in the middle of the game.
