I have already made posts about the PSP versions of Final Fantasy I, II, and IV. The only numbered title left to discuss is the release of Final Fantasy III.
This particular release stands out as the most different one since it is the only non-2D version among the classic Final Fantasy game re-releases. The game was developed by Matrix Software and marks the first time it was released outside of Japan since its initial launch. Originally available for the NDS, it was later ported to the PSP. Unfortunately, the physical release of the PSP version of the 3D remake was only available in Japan. With the PSP store now shut down, there is no way to purchase a digital version either. It's ironic how people still advocate for digital-only releases, considering this situation.
But let's dive back into the game itself! The story revolves around four orphaned youths who are drawn to a crystal of light. The crystal bestows them with its power and instructs them to embark on a journey to restore balance to the world. In the 3D remake, the four Warriors of Light, originally Onion Knights in the original release, are named Luneth, Arc, Refia, and Ingus.
Here are the key differences between the original and the remake: In the remake, you start with only one character, and the party members join one by one, whereas in the original, you begin with a party of four characters right away. In the original, the four warriors of light don't have predetermined names, allowing you to name them yourself. Additionally, changes to the job system and the introduction of the Mognet feature are the biggest differences compared to the original game.
If you're not a big fan of the 3D remake, you now have the opportunity to play the game in a version closer to the original with the Pixel Remaster release. For me, this is the best news since the announcement of those remasters.
How about you? Do you prefer the 3D remake or the classic 2D version?
