I dedicate this post to @ongakugamer and @cheapretrokorean that are big fans of this game 😉
My game for January was Scarlet Nexus, that I finally managed to finish few days ago.
I got this game because it was cheap and it looked like it is a hit or miss among the gaming community. Some people love it and others hate it. What is my opinion? Hmmmm
First, about the story:
You play as Kasane or Yuito and experience the story from their individual perspective. Both are new members of the OSF, a special force that is using superpowers of the members to fight monsters called "others". The story contains political elements & explanations of conflicts between different parties ruling the world. Also, time traveling becomes an important plot element early in the game.
The gameplay is action oriented and while being pretty boring and tedious in the beginning, gets more fun towards the end of the game. You are using psychokinesis to throw items at the enemies, combine it with normal attacks and borrowing powers of your team members. Unfortunately, I thought the fights were not challenging, repetitive and weren't fun after 30 hours of playing. Especially, the recycling of enemies and areas made me wish to be over soon, so I can just see how the story ends.
The game is having some really annoying flaws. The repetitive remarks from the teammates, that are stating the obvious or the tool tips that you can't deactivate, were making me really mad. Especially the tool tips that were popping up mid-battle and taking a lot of the screen...
The story starts slow and gets more interesting, but is completely predictable and was disappointing my expectations of the time traveling aspect. It's not a bad game, but it's definitely not a title I will bother to play with the second character.
