I remember posting some games for the Wonderswan Color in the past and many not being familiar with the console that those are playable on.
Let's bring a lil bit light into this today.
Wonderswan color is a handheld console released in Japan in Year 2000 by Bandai. To compete with Nintendo, Bandai offered the console for a pretty low price with which they were able to take around 8% of the market share.
But the biggest reason for the success in Japan was a deal they made with Squaresoft and release of multiple Final Fantasy titles. Final Fantasy I, II and IV were all released as remakes with improved graphics and controls. The games you probably know for being a part of Origins and Chronicles/Anthology for PlayStation 1 are based on the Wonderswan releases. For this reason there were also two limited edition console bundles released with Final Fantasy I or Final Fantasy II.
The bundle comes with the console, one of the games and a package with Yoshitaka Amano's artwork on it. Definitely a gorgeous little package. This limited edition goes in good condition for around 150€ and less and it's not that expensive considering that the game alone can cost around 40-50€.
Were you familiar with the Wonderswan Color console or this particular bundle?
Fun fact: The Wonderswan also has an accessory called Wonder Wave and is, for selected Bandai games like Digimon and Gundam, compatible with Sony's PocketStation.
