Today I wanted to clarify another confusion caused by Squaresoft's past release decisions.
While in Japan Squaresoft released (almost) every game separately for Playstation, for whatever reason they decided to bundle some games together for the western release.
One common thing are the EU and NA releases of Final Fantasy Origin, that are both containing FFI and FFII.
It looks like Squaresoft can't count properly as they didn't include FFIII at all, on multiple occasions... Instead, they continued with FFIV!
Now the chaos and confusion continues!
Square released Final Fantasy Anthology containing FF IV and V... Make sense right? But only in the EU region because the NA release of Anthology contains FF V and FFVI..
The in EU missing Final Fantasy VI was released as a separate game..
But the in NA missing Final Fantasy IV was released as FF Chronicles in a bundle together with... What other FF game? Correct! Chrono Trigger.. 🙃
It all makes sense. I guess.. 🤔
Here the tl;dr version:
PAL:
Origins: FFI & FFII
Anthology: FFIV & FFV
Final Fantasy VI (Standalone)
NA:
Origins: FFI & FFII
Chronicles: FFIV & Chrono Trigger
Anthology: FFV & FFVI
I am hoping this post is helpful to some of you and offers an overview of the releases.
